Crayston Lee (North Ward Councillor)

Myself and my wife Kate moved to Charlton Down in May 2004, when a lot of the village was still a builder’s yard. Having spent a lifetime in the Magazine Distribution Business, I finally retired at age 66 and took time off to sell up in South Herts and move down here.

To stop the grey matter addling, I worked at “The Works” bookshop in Dorchester for over two years, finishing in December 2006. By this time I had decided that having been a wage slave for over 53 years it was time to slow down, so I retired completely.

By this time, I had started to attend Parish Council meetings, just to see how local rural life was managed. I was eventually co-opted as a Parish Councillor and subsequently became a full Councillor in May 2008.

Meanwhile in August 2007, I was co-opted onto the Committee of Trustees for Charlton Down Village Hall in the position of Hon. Secretary, becoming Chairman & Hon. Secretary in May 2008.

At about the same time, I started to deliver copies of “The Pilot” to all the residents of Redwood House. This I did until my knees told me “enough already”, so now I manage the wholesale distribution for all 590 copies throughout Charlton Down.

I like life down here and do not intend going anywhere else.
