Mark Simons (Chairman and South Ward Councillor)

I have worked as a researcher in the Planning Department at Dorset County Council for many years. I have lived in Charminster for the last 23 years moving here from Dorchester. Prior to that I was brought up in Farnham in Surrey, went to university in Durham and moved south-westwards firstly to Romsey and onto Dorchester. I am married with one daughter who is studying A-levels. My hobbies include DIY, gardening, mountainbiking and badminton.

I have been a member of the Parish Council for over 20 years, and the chairman for the last 7 years. I have seen many changes in the parish and have been involved in providing many facilities over the years from new play areas to orchards and nature areas. I currently write the back page of the Pilot each month about local issues affecting the area and have a strong interest in rights of way.

I am a strong believer in local services and have a practical “can do” attitude.
